Achieving 100% renewable energy for Lakewood

As a candidate for mayor, I have committed to place the city of Lakewood on course for 100% renewable energy by 2040. I have had every hope that we can come in ahead of that deadline, but doing so depends on more than the city’s mayor alone.

So I applaud my at-large colleagues’ introduction of a resolution committing the city to a target of 2035 for 100% renewable energy, based on the recommendation and expertise of the Sierra Club.

There is growing evidence that a swift transition to renewable energy is practical. Just last week, in fact, I saw and shared a Barron’s article to this effect. Strong support from city council is exactly what we will need to set and meet the goal of 100% renewable energy even before 2040.

Council’s support for this resolution on Monday is welcome news. I hope future councils will remain supportive, as our city confronts this challenge and opportunity in years ahead.

Letter: “George’s actions are consistent with what she says”

Hearing from residents is critical to making the best of Lakewood’s challenges and opportunities. This week’s Lakewood Observer includes a follow-up from a resident about our communication, while I have represented Lakewood on city council:

In November we will select a new mayor.

[…] One candidate showed us she is a straight shooter by thanking voters and asking us for our input via an article that appeared in this paper a couple of weeks after she took office. Writing that she welcomed phone calls, emails, and even sitting down for coffee, Meghan George provided a refreshing alternative…

Meghan George’s actions are consistent with what she says. She’s shown us she has our best interests at heart and in mind, and that we can count on her to do what she says and to do the right thing the right way. Lakewood needs Meghan George’s leadership. Please vote for her on November 5.

Solutions for safer streets

A 360-degree approach to public safety includes considering the details of real-life, every day safety. It’s very encouraging to hear about good results from digital speedometers, an initiative which I have supported while on council.

As mayor, I will continue to work with residents on solutions which are right for their street.

Community Activist: Meghan George is open and honest

…while Lakewood residents express a high level of awareness of local issues, there is a wide range of opinions on direction and goals. It is this diversity of positions on issues that guides my choice of Meghan George for Mayor. Meghan George, who currently serves as At-Large City Council Member, is well-suited to the position of Mayor because she is open and honest in her current representation of Lakewood citizens. 

Meghan George will lead on complex issues. She has the insight to identify the delicate balance between commercial growth and residential interests and redevelopment and historic preservation. Meghan George has the ability to review the day-to-day functions of City operations. She has the experience to apply a 360-degree view of City operations and close gaps that exist in city services.
