Choosing smart, sustainable development for Lakewood

A recent article in Crain’s Cleveland Business examined development issues in Lakewood, and I want to provide a response. As part of this year’s campaign conversation I will be discussing how we pursue “smart development.”

The closures of Barry Buick and Lakewood Hospital (among others) face us with big choices about development within the City of Lakewood.  We have very few large commercial parcels available for new construction.  Getting these choices right is important.

Meghan F. George Launches Campaign to be Lakewood Mayor

For Immediate Release —

Lakewood councilwoman and workforce strategy consultant Meghan F. George has announced that she is running for Mayor of Lakewood.

“Lakewood deserves top notch representation, especially at the executive level, and I believe I am the best candidate for the job,” George says.

She would bring to the role of mayor a combination of council experience, and work in the private sector. George’s day job involves working with executive leadership at companies throughout Ohio, advising them on employee benefits and human resources. She says her experience with these responsibilities would be valuable assets for Lakewood, as elected manager of the city’s executive branch.

“The job of mayor is to lead an organization of over 400 full time employees, including multiple collective bargaining units.” George says. “In my current role I advise clients on best practices and cutting-edge techniques in managing their workforce.”

Lakewood updates food truck safety standards

This week, Lakewood City Council unanimously approved an ordinance I proposed, last fall, requiring that food truck operators maintain up-to-date standards of safety, sanitation, and liability.

Effective safety regulations are an essential, basic responsibility for our government. I think this was a great display of council and the administration working collaboratively for the best interests for the residents of Lakewood and the restaurant community.
